The Artist
Gustavo Dalinha’s character is strongly related to the fact that he was born on the frontier between Brazil and Uruguay. His moving between these two South American regions, and his later wandering around continents have added a wide spectrum of diverse realities to his worldview. Such experiences are innate to one used to crossing borders and adept at exploring the unknown, and that is a defining trait in Dalinha’s Expression.
Gustavo Dalinha was born in 1961 at the "Frontera de la Paz" (Peace Border) between Santana do Livramento in Brazil, and Rivera in Uruguay.
From 1973 to 1975 he studies Arts with Prof. Alberto Ielisich and Prof. Osmar Santos.
From 1978 to 1980 he receives a scholarship and studies Painting under the orientation of Prof. Osmar Santos at the School of Arts ASPES, in Santana do Livramento. In 1981 he studies at the „Atelier Livre da Prefeitura“, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, with Prof. Britto Velho.
In January 1989 he migrates to West Berlin where he witnesses the Fall of the Wall. He stays in Berlin and opens his Studio where he works still nowadays.
In 1990, in Madagascar, he finds the Antaimoro Paper which strongly influences his work.
From 1990 to 2000 he takes part in a “Fourth Way Group”, whose main objetive is the “Harmonious Development of Man” in Germany.
In 1996 he completes a Seminar at the Chartres Cathedral in France.
Since 2000 G. Dalinha works and also teaches in many workshops with children and adults with special needs: disabled or socially marginalized, contributing with many social projects in Brazil and Germany.
In 2002 he opens another Studio in Porto Alegre until he moves this Studio to Buenos Aires in 2012. He works currently nowadays between Berlin and Buenos Aires.
From 1979, Gustavo Dalinha took part in many international Art Exhibitions and we can find his works in every continent, in private Collections and Cultural Institutions of various kinds.
